Cement arrivals in Gujarat during December 2011 have been the highest ever according to data compiled by the Cement Manufacturers` Association and industry sources. At 1.86 million tonnes for the month of December 2011, the arrivals have surpassed the previous all time high of 1.69 million tonnes posted in March 2011.
Gujarat has seen a 30 per cent jump in demand for cement from 1.42 million tonnes in December 2010 and it is high-by 11 per cent over the previous November month arrivals of 1.67 million tonnes.
For the nine months period ended December 31, 2011 the cement arrivals in Gujarat stood at 13.01 110.23 tonnes, an 18 per cent increase over 11.02 110.23 tonnes for the previous nine months ended December 31, 2010.
Explaining the reasons behind the record cement demand, Alok Sanghi, Director of Sanghi Industries, said, `"In the past December's have always witnessed high demand for cement in Gujarat. But, the last month all previous records were broken. A spurt in demand from infrastructure and government projects have led to this record cement arrivals from within and outside Gujarat".
Shares of the company gained Rs 0.1, or 0.61 per cent, to trade at Rs 16.40. The total volume of shares traded was 3,717 at the BSE (3.26 p.m., Tuesday).
