Cement sales grew by 19 per cent Y-o-Y in December 2011
to 4.44mn tonnes, the 2nd highest monthly sales ever, driven by listed
as well as private players. This more than offset the increased cement
production, pushing the clinker stock-to-sales ratio to the lowest level since
September 2008.
Domestic cement sales rose 19.0 per cent Y-o-Y and 29.3 per cent M-o-M to 4.44mn tonnes in December 2011.
Local clinker sales increased to 13,000 tonnes against 1,000 tonnes in November 2011, an
increase of 44.4 per cent.
Cement exports dropped 25.9 per cent Y-o-Y but increased 19.8 per cent M-o-M to 103,000 tonnes in
December 2011.
In December 2011 cement production increased 17.7 per cent Y-o-Y to 4.51mn tonnes. However,
clinker production decreased 1.5 per
cent YoY to 3.66mn tonnes.
Unlisted private players’ domestic cement market share increased by
1.2 per cent M-o-M to 21.1 per cent; the increase was 92 bps M-o-M to 22.5 per cent, including exports and
clinker sales.
