About Cairo
The oldest city in Egypt, Cairo, or al-Qahirah, is also the most cosmopolitan and is at the forefront of technological change in modern Egypt. European influence in Cairo has been felt since the mid nineteenth century when a modern Cairo began to emerge alongside the city of the pyaramids. But it is the ancient Cairo with its narrow crowded streets bursting with restaurants, coffee shops and markets where you can buy almost anything, which mesmerises and captivates the visitor.
Visit the INTERCEM hospitality desk situated in the foyer of the Cairo Marriott Hotel for guidance and on how to get the most out of your leisure time. The hotel’s website also offers a visitor’s guide to Cairo.
Visitor Guide
Climate
Egypt enjoys an ideally moderate climate all the year but temperatures increase as you travel from North to South. The mid summer months can get hot but without excessive humidity. Winter has quite pleasant sunny weather by day but the temperature can drop during the night especially in the desert. There are few rainy days, mainly in January and February.
Visa
To visit Egypt, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Delegates to INTERCEM CAIRO are encouraged to check for specific regulations according to your country of origin. Visitors entering Egypt at the overland border, to visit Gulf of Aqaba coast and St. Catherine, can be exempted from visa requirements and granted a free residence permit for fourteen days to visit the area.
Please be aware that delegates who are entitled to claim visas on arrival at Cairo Airport should have $15 available before they go through immigration. Banks just before immigration control issue the visa and it will be placed in your passport. We are happy to help with visa related questions, please email info@intercem.co.uk
