LARGE ATTENDANCE REFLECTS DYNAMIC REGIONAL MARKETS |
INTERCEM CAIRO took place at the Cairo Marriott Hotel and concluded with a visit to the Arabian Cement Plant on Thursday 18 March. The meeting attracted more than 450 delegates from 50 countries to make it one of the most successful INTERCEM events ever staged.
Delegates were treated to two full days of presentations given by market analysts and industry experts. The first session considered prospects for the Egyptian economy and the spectacular growth seen in cement demand in Egypt over the last two years (25% in 2009 and another 8% to 12% expected in 2010) The remainder of the first day looked at regional developments including special reports on Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Day Two concentrated initially on market developments in Africa with presentations on South Africa and the landlocked nations of Central Africa. These papers were supplemented with a detailed report on the process of trading and financing with the Continent prepared by the African Export Import Bank. The afternoon session looked at prospects for Turkey both domestic and export and concluded with a session on shipping plus a short review of technical developments
Away from the serious business of the conference hall, delegates enjoyed an evening of traditional Egyptian entertainment at a lavish Gala Dinner generously sponsored by the ASEC group of companies.
