The 14th INTERCEM Americas conference successfully took place at the stunning Doral Resort in Miami, Florida, on the 10-12 December 2012, and attracted in excess of 210 delegates from over 30 countries. Delegates enjoyed the unique networking opportunity whilst taking in informative presentations from leading international industry professionals.

Delegates representing major cement companies from around the world gathered to discuss the latest forecasts, news and innovations from the highly competitive Americas market.

Cary Cohrs, Chairman of the Portland Cement Association (PCA), and Malcolm Shelbourne, INTERCEM Chief Executive, opened the conference.
Presentations for the morning session of the first day covered domestic cement demand and started with a detailed overview of the U.S market for cement and clinker from Hendrik van Oss, Cement Commodity Specialist at the U.S. Geological Survey. Hendrik's presentation showed growth across the Union with 20 states reporting cement consumption growth in excess of 10% vs 2011, up from just 7 states showing growth last year. North Dakota topped the list with a huge 51% growth year on year! Only Delaware, Mississippi, Louisiana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington saw a consumption fall.

Mr van Oss was followed by Ed Sullivan, Chief Economist and Vice President of the PCA. Ed provided delegates with an energetic and comprehensive update on the status of the North American market as things stand at the end of 2012. Ed's informative presentation also covered the North American cement markets potential for future growth, as well as addressing the potential scenarios that could play out as a result of the Fiscal Cliff.
