INTERCEM Americas welcomed more than 240 delegates to the Sheraton Rio Hotel & Resort for the first ever INTERCEM meeting to be held in South America. One of the highlights of the event was the busy international exhibition which featured companies from all over the world. Another highlight was the spectacular second evening Gala Dinner, which featured Brazilian entertainment and some of the most colourful costumes one could imagine. The event concluded on Wednesday 15 September with closing remarks by Malcolm Shelbourne, INTERCEM's Chief Executive. He thanked the speakers, members of the Brazilian cement industry and the 240 delegates from 30 countries who attended, for contributing towards two days of stimulating and interesting debate on the prospects for the Latin American cement industry. It is clear that demand will continue to be strong particularly in Brazil with its surging economy and infrastructure improvement demands allied to the hosting of two of the worlds largest sporting events in the next six years (World Cup of Football in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016).
