Event summary

INTERCEM Asia 2026 welcomed 309 delegates to The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan for three days of conference sessions and business networking. Bringing together cement producers, traders, importers, exporters, shipping and logistics companies, equipment and technology suppliers, industry associations and market specialists, the programme examined cement markets across Indonesia and the wider Asia-Pacific region alongside developments affecting international trade.

Discussions focused on cement overcapacity and demand, changing trade flows, energy and freight costs, US tariffs, regional exports and the effect of recent geopolitical disruption on the industry. Indonesia provided an important focus for discussions around excess production capacity and decarbonisation, while sessions also examined China, the Philippines, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Lower-carbon cement production, SCMs, digitalisation and the changing business models of cement producers formed another major part of the programme.

Indonesian Cement Market & Industry Transformation

Overcapacity, exports and the transition towards lower-carbon production

Indonesia's cement market provided an important starting point for the programme, with production capacity of approximately 120Mt compared with domestic demand of around 60Mt. The resulting oversupply increased pressure on profitability and reinforced the role of exports within the country's cement industry.

Discussions also addressed Indonesia's transition towards lower-carbon cement production and the strategic response of producers to changing market conditions. SIG presented a move beyond cement towards a broader building materials portfolio, with greater emphasis on operational efficiency, customer requirements and participation across the wider construction materials value chain.
