Event summary

INTERCEM Shipping Americas 2026 welcomed 154 delegates to The Royal Sonesta Houston Galleria for two days focused on the cement, dry bulk shipping and logistics markets. The programme brought together cement and cementitious materials importers, shipping and freight specialists, terminal operators, equipment and technology providers, market analysts and other companies involved across the cement supply chain.

Discussions examined dry bulk freight conditions, the outlook for cement demand, US imports, tariffs, energy and bunker costs, vessel availability and the economics of moving cementitious materials into the Americas. With geopolitical disruption affecting established trade routes, the programme also covered US maritime policy, terminal capacity, fleet development and the operational efficiencies required across ports and shipping.

Dry Freight - Global Update for 2026

Dry bulk markets entered 2026 with vessel supply and demand pulling in different directions. Fleet growth, including new capacity from China, was balanced against an ageing fleet, vessel surveys and disruption that continued to restrict effective shipping capacity.

Demand remained uneven across commodities, with iron ore, bauxite, grain and minor bulks supporting activity. The outlook was stronger for the first half of the year, while additional vessel deliveries, macroeconomic uncertainty and dependence on Chinese demand created greater risk later in 2026.
