Event summary

INTERCEM Shipping Forum 2026 welcomed 161 delegates to the Eurostars Hotel Excelsior in Naples for two days focused on the cement, clinker, SCM and dry bulk shipping markets. Bringing together cement producers and traders, shipowners, charterers, brokers, terminal operators, equipment suppliers, insurers and market specialists, the programme examined the increasingly close relationship between cement trade, maritime logistics and changing European carbon regulation.

Discussions covered dry bulk freight conditions, Mediterranean cement and clinker trade, geopolitical disruption, CBAM and the EU ETS, freight pricing and risk management. SCM availability emerged as an important issue for future trade and logistics as European producers sought to reduce clinker factors, while sessions on port networks, terminal design and shipping resilience examined the infrastructure and commercial strategies required to manage increasingly complex supply chains.

Mediterranean Cement Shipping: Trade, Decarbonisation and Supply Chain Challenges

Welcome Address from Nova Algoma

Event host partner Nova Algoma's opened the conference by positioning the Mediterranean and Naples as important centres of the global cement and maritime trade. The address reflected on the region's long history in cement production and shipping while highlighting the continued importance of reliable maritime connectivity for the movement of cement and clinker. It also recognised the growing impact of geopolitical disruption, changing fuel economics and the transition towards lower-carbon shipping.

Looking ahead, the speech emphasised the need for closer collaboration between shipowners and cargo interests as the industry navigates shipping decarbonisation. While vessel technology is developing, the availability of suitable low-carbon marine fuels and supporting infrastructure remains a key challenge. The address also highlighted the value of industry events in bringing together stakeholders to share market intelligence, develop practical solutions and strengthen relationships across the cement shipping supply chain.
